Having grown up on the prairie of Alberta, I have loved this story since I read it as a child. I guess at that time I identified with Brian, the protagonist, a thoughtful and sensitive child. It is interesting to see life through his eyes as he doesn't understand what really is going on around him, but interprets it through a child's lens.

This book was read by the author. He's not a great reader, but I enjoyed his emphasis, since he wrote the book.

A beautiful classic that at times moves with glacial speed.
I loved this book. A friend lent me her copy, and I knew I would want to reread it, so I bought my own. It's a beautifully written story about a boy growing up in a small town on the western prairies of Canada during the 1930s. Fans of Willa Cather should definitely read this book.
I loved this book. The story of a young boy in a small Canadian town. It brought back memories of my youth being raised in a small town. The local people and their relationships. The outcasts of the community, and the spiritual feeling of the wind on the prairie. I was sad when the book ended.

I read the book many years ago and wanted to gift it to my 9-year old grandson. I wanted to re-read it to make sure that it would be suitable for him. It is a wonderful book and very well written. It's about the daily life of a 9 or ten year old boy on the Prairies in Canada, Anybody who has lived in the prairies be it Canada or the USA could relate to it but I did decide that a young boy would need to be approximately 14 or 15 to really appreciate it and to understand it.

But it's a good read even for adults
