A lot of loose ends were tied together at the end of this third volume of this fantasy series. It was an entertaining book, that held my interest. Events got arranged for a possible sequel someday. It is the case, however, that much has been resolved, so on balance, there is little need for a sequel. The “spirits” of creation and destruction, showed themselves to be necessary parts of the world. This knowledge was obtained as a result of attempting to eliminate the spirits. They remain a strange and intriguing part of this world. They are, to a certain extent, symbolic of nature in its wild exuberance, bringing both the necessary world of possibility, of beauty, and of the potential of our survival, but also an insane angry fury of destruction toward us humans. The queens possess some very limited power to command this fury and tame it: There is an intelligence behind the spirits that occasionally leads them to voluntarily submit to the queens, as the citizens of a realm submit to the leadership of a queen. While there are some fairly strong male characters, the women dominate in this world. In this sense, the story told is utopian, based within a hierarchy of female domination. On the other hand, the ambitions and desires of the queens and other strong women in the story lend a dark aspect to this utopia, but not so much that we would characterize the tale as dystopian. At the end of the book, we see that the resolution is somewhat positive, but tinged with sadness. I recommend this story, overall, for its entertainment appeal for people who like good fantasy writing.Tags : The Queen of Sorrow: Book Three of The Queens of Renthia [Sarah Beth Durst] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Queen of Sorrow Book Three of The Queens of Renthia Sarah Beth Durst 9780062413383 Books Reviews
I could read another 100 books by SBD and still want more. This trilogy has been an amazing read. Wow.
Excellent finish to a great triology. I enjoyed the world created by Sarah.
I will been chaffing first her next book.
GREAT BOOK !!
I love this series! The world of Renthia is amazing and I'm so glad that Sarah isn't ready to say goodbye to it! I very much look forward to future stories!
I ate up this trilogy in a matter of a week and a half. Loved the variety of characters, the strong women and the strong men who supported them unconditionally, and the bravery of people of all ages. I thoroughly enjoyed the totally unique world and customs and hope there will be other books in the same world to follow.
I really enjoyed the first two books in the trilogy, but struggled with this one. Merecot comes off as a caricature, and she sounds like a sassy teenager, which gets old (eye rolling and very modern-sounding dialogue).
The plot is good, and I stuck with it to see how the trilogy wrapped up, but if this had been the first book I wouldn't have made it through.
Easy 5/5 if you ask me. If the first or second book or any other reviews had you doubting this series this makes it all worth it. I'm very pleased with the conclusion (although I mistakenly thought her upcoming book was part of this series when it's a stand alone BUT based in Renthia). There might be some things I could pick at that annoyed me or what have you but really it's not worth it. This book, and therefore this series, was great, really. I highly recommend it. Shoot, I would love to see it manifested as a movie! I couldn't have guessed how this would play out, well I could have tried but I would have failed. Mrs. Durst is a stellar writer with a brilliant imagination. I'll be keeping my ear to the ground for new works. Worth every minute.
